The KJH Defense Team

Karen Wiggins and Tamara Arthur, DO, are of counsel.  Karen has years of experience in litigating complex cases and providing exhaustive case work-up and preparation for trial.  Dr. Arthur has the distinction of being both a medical doctor and an attorney.  She is an invaluable in-house resource on complex medical issues, as well as an ardent legal advocate in litigation.

Our accomplished associate lawyers are a valuable part of our team, assisting in all aspects of the defense, from assignment through final resolution. Several have worked for respected trial and appellate judges.

Experienced paralegals are also a critical part of our team, all having years of experience in medical defense. Their assistance, from the initial compilation and review of medical records, to preparation for trial, is essential to the end result.

We all share:

  • The desire to defend and represent professionals
  • The intelligence and work ethic needed to achieve efficient and winning results
  • The reward of knowing the preparation was complete and the case was well tried

Practice Areas

For over thirty years our lawyers have had a principal role in shaping Oregon law regarding healthcare, medical negligence, and the reach of professional liability.

Our attention is foremost on healthcare and professional liability defense. We have represented physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers in hundreds of trials and other litigated cases. Over the years we have helped shape much of Oregon law relating to hospital and medical defense. Our litigation experience extends to civil rights and complex litigation, premises liability, employment matters, and unfair trade claims.

We also represent hospitals and providers in a wide array of administrative, medical and nursing board, agency, and regulatory matters. We regularly consult on issues involving EMTALA, HIPAA, and other issues related to federal standards and compliance.

We receive appellate referrals from clients and other lawyers who seek our appellate expertise. Professional liability insurers retain us to help other lawyers untangle complicated legal and procedural issues at trial and on appeal. Our professional liability work includes defending lawyers in claims brought against them.
